Not a pirate ship. A scholarshipship. Ship.
We have two types of scholarships.
A Stowawayship is a unique and fabulous scholarship that allows you to pay just half the tuition for one of our events now — with a year to come up with the other half (which we will then give to someone else so they can stow away too!).
A Furlough is a way to pay full tuition but to spread out your payments more for some extra wiggle-room.
You’ll find information about the Furlough scholarships at the bottom of this page in a dotted-line box — (just like this one) — with the COMPASS symbol.
We’re currently accepting applications for a Stowawayship scholarship for the June 2012 Rally.
The Stowawayship is a (half price) scholarship.
For many of our programs, there’s a space — occasionally two — that we save for unusual circumstances.
And! This option is intended for people who are longing to come and really, truly could not make it happen any other way.
If this is you, there’s a possibility you could come as a secret stowaway.
An intentionally invited secret stowaway, of course. Because we want you to be able to join us.
If you’re chosen for this unusual dispensation, you’ll get a half scholarship to the event you’re applying for.
On one very serious condition.
Within a year (twelve months) of the event, you will raise the remainder of the tuition you would have paid, and you will pay it to The Fluent Self, care of the stowawayship treasure chest.
That allows us to give the stowaway spot to someone else next time.
You’ll have made another stowawayship possible, and someone else will be overjoyed to get the same opportunity.
The terms.
What we’re giving (our part):
Half off tuition.
What you’re getting beyond that:
- The opportunity to come do this thing you want to do now and not have to put it off for a year or more.
- A twelve month reprieve to raise the other half of the tuition monies.
- The skills, knowledge and strategies to work through your stuck and to biggify, so that raising this money will be a hell of a lot easier.
- The pride in knowing that you put someone else through an adventure, just like someone else did for you. It’s like being a secret santa but nine thousand times more heartwarming.
- Our faith in you. And ridiculous amounts of sparklepoints!
What you’re giving:
The promise that by next year (within twelve months) you will pay the second half so that we can give another stowawayship to someone who needs it.
Your tuition puts someone else through a program. And then they’ll have to earn the money to put the next person through.
Like a baton hand-off. But instead of a baton, it’s a treasure. And you get to experience both the giving of it and the receiving of it, which is kind of awesome.
Timing!
If your Rally stowawayship application ends up being selected, you’ll pay your half in a total of 3 monthly payments of $253, the first of which happens when you’re offered the stowawayship.
Either way, second half of tuition isn’t due for 12 months from the program itself.
If you know you can meet the criteria listed here, go for it.
The scholarship ship might be the most special thing we do.
And right now it is extra-beacon-like.
Also! After Rally, you will feel way less anxious about how to make this work.
That’s because after Rally you will feel way less anxious about everything.
And you will steadily generate creative solutions whenever you need them.
This is a well-documented Rally side effect!
The very important points!
- The stowawayship is by application only.
- The Art of Embarking is required material for all all Fluent Self programs. Some programs have additional prerequisites.
- You cover your own travel expenses.
- If the event is at the Playground, you’ll need to arrange a hotel or couchsurfing (we have connections).
- You may be asked to give us an interview or a review after the program.
And the most important.
Please please please only apply if you are 100% committed to coming if your application is accepted, and completely sure you’ll be able to make it.
Almost everyone who applies won’t get the scholarship spot because for any given program we can only do one or two of these, and I am so sorry.
Not getting it doesn’t mean that I don’t like you or that your application wasn’t amazing enough. Your inherent good-ness is still beautiful and your crown is still shiny.
If it doesn’t work out this time, I still love you.
Payment option. Your first stowawayship payment is due when you’re accepted into the program, with the rest payable in two more equal payments, billed to your credit card every thirty days.
If the next version of this program ends up costing more than the stowaway spot you received, no worries. You won’t have to pay more. Should it come out to less, the difference goes back to the stowawayship treasury. Your commitment remains the same no matter what.

The Furlough scholarship.
A Furlough is a way to pay full tuition but to spread out your payments more for some extra wiggle-room.
Instead of making payments every thirty days, the payments happen every sixty days instead.
This is available in case you deeply wish to come to a program and absolutely cannot make things work another way.
The qualities of the Furlough scholarship:
Ease, release, relief, love, sharing, sweetness, desire, compassion, sturdiness, steadiness, grounding, and peace.
Because all our scholarships share the elements of reciprocity and personal power, we also ask that you give something to the Playground in return.
In the case of the furlough scholarship, there are a couple options for how this could work:
- You could spend two hours after the event doing Playground clearing (washing dishes, folding blankets, putting costumes and art supplies back, etc).
- You could edit a teleclass transcript for us.
- Something else we haven’t thought of (if you have ideas, they’re welcome!).
And we may wish to interview you about the program as well.
If you need to apply for a FURLOUGH Scholarship for Rally (Rally!) … sign up now, make the deposit, and leave us a note in the shopping cart.
If we have room for you in the program, we’ll make sure the first recurring payment doesn’t happen for sixty days, and that the additional additional payments also happen at sixty day intervals instead of thirty. If we can’t bring you into the program, you’ll get your deposit back.
