What’s the Playground?
The Playground is my pirate-ey center where we (me, my duck, you, other people who are fabulous) can play.
Play! With all the stuff I teach. And not just online but in real life. And not just real life, but in Portland, Oregon.
Destuckification. Mindful biggification. Non-cheesy working on your stuff. Shivanautical epiphanies. With wacky techniques and assorted smartnesses. And costumes.
With five rooms, a giant hammock and lots and lots of pretzels.
The Playground! I wrote it a love letter (in the form of a Very Personal Ad) and now we’ve found one another.
To do Ironic Aerobics and Dork Dancing. To practice Old Turkish Lady Yoga and Extreme Silliness.
Fabulous and kooky adventures. Possibly also with Metaphor Mouse. And quality goofing off.
Hell yeah! And also: hooray!
Questions you might have about The Playground:
Where is it?
It’s in Northeast Portland. Easy to get to. But kind of hidden.
You’ll get directions, a map, an entrance code and a secret word when you sign up for a class or get accepted to one of our programs.
Once you’re there, you’ll find clues to guide you. And of course you’ll be greeted by the duck and crossbones, because this pirate ship is totally flying the Jolly Selma.
Wait, what is Portland all about?
Buckets of information about Portland (and our neighborhood) are right here – what to pack, what to eat, how to get around, where to stay, and all sorts of other good stuff.
How do I sign up or apply for an event?
Go to the events page.
I highly recommend signing up for the Extremely Occasional Hey I’m Doing A Thing list on that page too.
Because I usually let them know about events first. And sometimes events fill up before I even get around to mentioning them on the blog or putting them up on the events page.
Are there swing sets and jungle gyms and stuff?
Ohmygod. Would that be not be the most awesome thing in the entire world?
No. Though we might get a hammock for the Refueling Station.
Tell me something else about the Playground!
It is beautiful.
It has chandeliers! And blanket forts.
Also, it used to be a tattoo parlor but then it was turned (the horror!) into a cubicle farm. We’ve had to do some serious energy clearing to get the boredom monsters out. But they’re gone now. So that’s cool.
And there’s a dress-up room. A costumery!
Can I rent out the Playground for my own events?
At this point we aren’t renting out the Playground or having anyone else do events there.
Though I will make an announcement should that ever change.
Did you say something about pie?
There will be pie. Or: there is often pie.
