how can you have new year’s several times a year? no wonder you people invented psychoanalysis, the calender alone must drive people mad. ; )

I didn’t even know Rosh Hashana existed. I need to get out more. (well, out of the little christian calendar anyway)

Hi Havi,

Thanks for clearing up the whole roshashana deal, in your delightful, wacky Havi way. I just gotta say it…. I LOVE PISCES people. I’m married to one and most of my friends have a slippery fish darting around in their chart somewhere. I just love the whole ” I don’t know where we are going, and I don’t know if we have ever gotten to where we thought we might have been headed”, but somehow along the way I’ve ended up feeling all new and shiny and spun around in a most delightful, bubbly, spirit soaked compassion fest.

And I will never, ever think of Roshashana in the same way again after reading this!!!

is eerily close to a line in the chorus of one of my favorite songs, “Love and Anger” by Kate Bush:

“Take away the love and the anger,
And a little piece of hope holding us together.
Looking for a moment that’ll never happen,
Living in the gap between past and future.”

There’s more. It’s a totally awesome song. Fills me with hopeful energy. Gosh, maybe I need to go give it a listen right now. Thanks for the inspiration!

I suspect there is a little of the having to deal with family and everyone’s expectations as well. Happens to all of us. We don’t have as much control over how we celebrate these things as we’d like.

I’m gonna second Eveline’s appreciation for the ‘traditions’ sentence. My mom’s family is Jewish, but much more in the way of culture/tradition than in a religious way. Most of the holidays in my family end up revolving around the food, anyway…can’t complain about that!
