Havi,

This post came out the perfect time for me. The place I freelance (I am a creative director) just took on a new partner who is very rigid in terms of roles and responsibilities. He has pretty much cut the creative team out of the entire strategic process, and I for one am feeling insulted an marginalized. It's uncomfortable, too, because I have enjoyed working with this company in part because I was included (and respected) in strategic planning.

So, I guess I just have to recognize that that's HIS stuff, and figure out whether or not I can live with the situation or move on. Thoughts?

Thanks, and my best to you --

Oh, awesome.

Yes, sometimes criticism can throw you so much for a loop that it's just kind of a "systems shutdown" situation.

You find yourself in the hurt and stuck without even being able to track how you got there. I think we all know *that* feeling! Sigh.

Anyway, so glad to hear this was useful. Take care, and good luck with your "letting them have their stuff, letting you have your stuff" process!

Thanks for the Recovery from criticism hit and run article. One of the things I find interesting is how when this happened just this week, I was caught so off guard I wasn't even sure what had happened. Just knew it was very uncomfortable.

Your thoughts and tips for being responsive vs. reactive are right on and supported me in processing the experience.

Perfect timing! Thanks again!
