Thanks Havi. I do think it sounds like you have a great structure in place that will accommodate both phone lovers and haters - and I do see the benefit of incorporating calls - I was just curious as to whether it was completely weird and unique of me to *not* want calls *at all*.

<img src="http://fluentself.com/images/blog/ducks/Selma_tinyB.png"> Yeah, some people hate calls.

Some people love them.

We've tried to put in enough elements (forum thingies, live chat rooms during the calls, small group meetings, study partners, etc) so that everyone will have a couple of things that fit them well.

Without the calls it wouldn't feel as "alive" for me -- I participate in a lot of other people's programs where it's really just about the forum, and it doesn't engage me enough.

And at the same time, I imagine there will be some people who won't do calls and will either listen to the recordings or skip that part altogether, and that's fine.

So ... yeah, we're trying to come up with as many ways as possible to meet different needs, and hoping to hit the combination that will make it accessible and useful for the people who need it.

And will keep updating! :)

@Robynn/Regina:

All I can say is that if it were only an email or forum-based discussion, I don't think the kitchen table thing would work. Well, it could work on a smaller scale but not as intended.

I think the sort of thing Havi is offering needs the phone calls or videos included, or it's not worth the money. Besides, I look at the phone calls as my guarantee of Havi's participation in the program (as opposed to something where we get to chat with lots of neato people but not nec. w/ Havi's leadership.)

I don't want to spark off a big discussion about what the program costs or doesn't cost. I've joined it so obviously I'm ok with the cost. If phone calls weren't involved I wouldn't have joined. The calls are recorded so you can listen to them after the fact if you can't be there when the call is scheduled (like I can't).

I'm with Robynn about the phone thing. I really don't like the phone thing as it ties me up. My schedule has so much flux (as in extra work!) especially when school is in session (I work for a university). I also don't do well with evening based calls as I have to get up very early for work (4:30am) and thus like to be heading to bed no later than 8pm.

Email or forum based discussions work much better for me - but you have addressed that in your FAQ. Now I just need to carve out time so I can join - probably will be right around the time you get to the "Time" discussion!

I love that you have a Kvetchtastic Whine Bar. That rocks.

I'm curious about something. It's not an objection, because (a) I'm not signing up anyway, and (b) you've already provided a solution above; but I wonder, does anyone else have a strong but non-practical objection to phone-based programmes? As in, I can hear perfectly well, but for various reasons, the phone just really doesn't work for me? Would be interested to hear if you ever get that from people.

Thank you for taking the time to explain more about the kitchen sink. I'm very interested but don't feel I can devote the time to it, nor to myself :-( , until later this year. So glad to hear that I can jump in later!

In the meantime, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog & website. Your "Dissolving Procrastination" e-book has been a lifesaver.

I'm so excited to be able to talk and work with people that won't give me a blank stare (luv Hubby to death though)when I ask what they think about certain biggifying things.

I also totally get the thing about the plural of forum. Your workarounds work really well.

@Joely you are not the only one to freak out in that particular way. I think Havi's team is overwhelmed. They did get back to me just a bit out of the promised time frame. Check your spam folder just in case.

This is in no way relevant to anything here but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it should really be "fora" and not "forums" but everybody thinks I'm crazy. Which is true, but not necessarily because I understand how to pluralise Latin words.

I've applied but I haven't heard anything, which has freaked me out. I'm not even sure if I'm *supposed* to hear anything about it. I haven't emailed because of course you're snowed under with emails, and so I decided to sit in my freaking out for a bit. Since I've had a lot of different things to freak out about, it's just there in the background, simmering. I think I've started imagining it's like getting into university and you have to have all kinds of qualifications to get accepted. Hmmm... Stuff coming up!

I'm very excited about doing it, especially knowing the first bit is about money. I can see it's going to make an incredible difference to my life.
